Tambopata National Reserve is a must-see place in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. The National Reserve is home to several species of plants, birds, animals and countless species of butterflies.
Tambopata Rainforest Tour 4 days, Peru, with our local guide you will get a detailed insight into life in the middle of the Peruvian rainforest.
You will be amazed by the qualities of its plants, from which most of our medicines originated and from which most of the cures we desperately seek will be found if we don’t destroy them first. Every night there will be some kind of nighttime activities. Night walks (optional for those who don’t want to look for tarantulas and other creepy crawlies), alligator spotting when conditions are optimal. And your favorite memory of the Rainforest may be the delicious meals, combining international and local cuisine, carefully prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients.
Your epic Tambopata Rainforest Tour 4 Days, begins with a pick up from the airport/bus terminal in Puerto Maldonado. We will take you to our office in the city where you can leave your belongings in our safe deposit box.
We will then continue to the port of Capitania. We will take our motor boat along the Madre de Dios River for approximately 50 minutes to Paradise Amazon Lodge.
Our first adventure will be to go to the high canopy suspension bridge and zip lines.
The start of the adventure circuit is reached by a tower and staircase that ascends to the treetops where there is a platform that marks the start of the almost 200 mts long zip line, the impressive views are only matched by the excitement of overcoming our fears and the adrenaline that runs through us as we jump from the platform held by the high security harnesses that connect us to the zip line cable to a 27 mts high platform. The 75m long log walkway, hanging 27m above the ground, starts from this platform, a risky balancing act, and takes us to the platform where the second zip line begins, a 160m flight back to the tower and staircase descending to the forest floor.
1.00pm Return to Paradise Amazon Lodge.
After a well-deserved lunch, we set out on kayaks to the river, well protected with high quality life jackets, and accompanied by a motorboat that guarantees extra safety; this level one activity is relaxing and accessible to all. Upon arrival at Monkey Island, you will be able to appreciate a great diversity of monkeys such as: the capuchin, tamarins and squirrel monkeys, we will put on a show of swinging through the treetops carrying the trunks of the large trees that make them their home so that they can accept food from your hand. Return to Paradise Amazon Lodge. There are night activities available, tonight we have alligator sightings.
After a big breakfast in the jungle, we will take a 1.5 hour hike to the famous Sandoval Lake, passing through virgin forest, home to beautiful flora and fauna including giant otters, waterfowl, caimans, wild chickens, taricayas (small turtles) and a variety of fish.
We will spend a few hours canoeing on this, one of the most beautiful lakes in Madre de Dios, where you can fish for piranhas, paddle, swim, walk or just relax before returning to the Lodge in the afternoon.
We will have lunch at Sandoval Lake. One of the most impressive features of the jungle is the enormity of the trees and you will have the experience of standing at the base of the enormous Lupuna. We can make a short visit to the Fitzcarral boat or there is the opportunity to visit the traditional “chacras” agricultural areas of the area. Return to the Lodge. Dinner. Evening activities (optional).
After enjoying a traditional breakfast, we will embark on a short guided walk to visit the native families of Ese’Ejas, the largest Ese Eja community, with about 200 families, of which we will visit two. The “Rescue of Cultural Values” Project, located on Gamitana Island, works with two families who will show us the culture of their ancestors, their language and customs, clothing and dances. In our modern and civilized world we have almost forgotten the existence of ancestral cultures and traditions.
An ancient indigenous tradition like the Ese’Eja reveals to us the customs and way of life of indigenous peoples.
They give us the opportunity to have direct contact with a people of ancient warriors and hunters and share their ancestral ways.
Once you have enjoyed the visit and after lunch, we will take a boat ride to do some rustic fishing. The lake is home to several catfish, damsels, sardings and piranhas. At sunset we return to our lodge and have dinner.
We will embark on a boat ride to witness the parrot clay lick. This is a must-do activity in Tambopata. We will start with a one and a half hour boat ride on the Madre de Dios River where we will be able to observe the native flora and fauna of the region. You will witness the sunrise in the Amazon, which is a magical spectacle on its own.
We will arrive at the viewpoint and sit at a safe distance from the cliff and wait for the parrots to arrive. You will have the opportunity to see blue-headed parrots, auroras, parakeets, and various species of birds.
The clay here is rich in a nutrient that helps these birds eliminate toxins from their bodies. We will spend an hour here learning about different species of birds and their life. You will have time to capture this on your camera while our guide shares information about them.
We will return to the Lodge for breakfast. After breakfast, we will embark on a boat ride to return to Puerto Maldonado. Our crew will meet you upon arrival at the pier and transfer you to our office to collect your luggage and then transfer you to the bus terminal or airport.
