One Day Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu? Is it possible?
Machu Picchu, one of the new seven wonders of the world, is high on the list of dream destinations for everyone.
There are several ways to reach this wonderful site, you can choose to take the 4-day classic Inca Trail, 5-day Salkantay Trek, Lares Trek or other treks to reach this place, at the same time you can choose to take the train and the bus (the easiest way), however, there are many outdoor adventure enthusiasts who want to do the multi-day treks, but cannot due to limited time, so this Machu Picchu 1-day trek is perfect. For them, where you do not miss anything on the short Inca Trail of 2 days, that is, it is the same path, only that the walk can be a little more demanding than normal.
Very early, our private transportation and your guide will pick you up at your hotel at 4 am in Cusco for the trip to the Ollantaytambo train station or at 5:30 am “meeting time” in Ollantaytambo if you wish to start from there. After 1 hour and 10 minutes of travel on the train, we arrived at kilometer 104, this place is also known as Chachabamba and is located (2,100 m / 6,927 feet) on the Cusco-Machu Picchu highway where we began the Inca Trail. Here we pass through the first checkpoint “Chachabamba”. We then begin a moderate three-hour ascent to the magnificent archaeological site of Wiñayhuayna (2,650 m / 8,747 ft). Once we arrive, you will be able to enjoy spectacular views of the Urubamba Canyon and sacred river, impressive Inca sites, and connection to the traditional four-day Inca Trail.
After having had time to enjoy the delicious lunch and also the beautiful views, we continued our walk towards Inti Punku “the Gate of the Sun” (2,730 m / 9,007 feet). From there we will have the first spectacular and complete view of Machu Picchu, considered one of the seven best tourist attractions in the world.
After enjoying the view, we will descend for approximately one hour to the city of Machu Picchu. Once there we will visit this incredible spectacle seeing all the knowledge that the Inkas used to build this wonderful place respecting Pachamama “Mother Earth”.
Once again close to Machu Picchu you will have the opportunity to contemplate up close and enjoy the incredible Machu Picchu.
Later we headed to Aguas Calientes for dinner. And in the afternoon (approximately 6:00 p.m.), we head to take our train back to Ollantaytambo and once we arrive at this point we will be picked up to the city of Cusco until we arrive at your hotel.
The night before your trip to Short Inca Trail 1 Day Challenge, information meetings are held at your hotel at 6 pm with your trekking guide. And if you cannot attend at this time, you must arrange to do it at another time.
During the briefing, you will receive your duffel bag for your belongings that you intend to take on the hike, which will not be in your backpack.
These informational meetings last approximately 30 to 40 minutes.
The trek you have booked must be paid in full at the time of breifing or days before departure.
We would greatly appreciate it if you would pay the balance of the trip in cash in US dollars or in local currency. To withdraw here in Cusco we have several ATMs along Av. El Sol (either in US dollars or in local Peruvian soles).
You can pay by credit card or PAYPAL online, but you will have to pay an 8% service charge, charged by VISA and PAYPAL. We do not accept bank checks or payment of the balance with traveler’s checks.
Our PERU TREK Company transports will pick you up from your hotel, as long as you are in the Historic Center of Cusco. Pick-up time will be coordinated with your guide at the briefing. The pick-up time may vary between 30 and 45 minutes due to traffic.
Cusco is a very old city, therefore it has many narrow and cobbled streets. Some hotels and Airbnb may be located on streets with no car access or on long, steep slopes, making it difficult to carry luggage. We strongly recommend that you book an accommodation with good access.
On the Inca Trail section of your day trip, you’ll pass through some truly stunning landscapes and be in awe of the natural beauty of the Andes in this region. You’ll stop at Wiñay Wayna archaeological site and see other amazing feats of the ancient culture that was the Incas.
You’ll end your epic day by entering Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate and get the most amazing views. You don’t need to worry about a thing as we take care of every aspect of your day out from your meals to all the transport. Sounds exciting? It is!
Yes! You must bring your original passport and it is very important that it is the same passport that you sent us to reserve your 1-day permit for the Inca Trail. Your passport will be checked at 3 checkpoint on the Inca Trail, Machu Picchu, and when you board the train.
Unfortunately, it is not possible. The Peruvian government does not allow us to change once Short Inca Trail 1 Day permits have been purchased. Inca Trail permits are non-transferable and non-refundable. The only information the government allows us to change is passport numbers.
If you are renewing your passport, please go ahead and email us a copy of your old passport to reserve your 1-day permits for the Inca Trail. If you no longer have your old passport, any government-issued ID will be accepted, as long as the name is the same. Once you receive your new passport. Email us a copy of your new passport as soon as possible to change your permit information. infoperutrek@gmail.com
Of course! During the trip, your main luggage can be stored in our office (you can coordinate during the day of the briefing or by email) or at your hotel, both for free.
Any equipment you don’t need on the trek can be safely stored at your hotel. Almost all hotels will offer this service. Do not leave valuables with your bags, put them in the hotel safe and get an itemized receipt (in the unlikely event of theft, many insurance companies require you to have a copy of the receipt with all items). It’s best to put items like credit cards in a sealed and signed envelope for added peace of mind.
Group tours are made up of different types of people. Physical conditions and ages can vary. By agreeing to be part of a group tour, you also agree that some people may be faster or slower than you. Therefore, everyone can go at their own pace on the route. It may be the case that a group wants to modify the route; however, it will be the guide who decides, after consulting with all the participants, if such modifications can be made.
Strikes and demonstrations are often frequent in Peru, and this can interrupt some of our planned tours. They can block the roads and take control of the railroad tracks. However, we will try to keep your tour as planned, even if it means leaving the night before your scheduled date. In these circumstances, tours can also be canceled. In case of changes or cancellations, all situations will be coordinated with you by our operations department. Your safety is our top priority and decisions will be made appropriately.
You are responsible for your personal belongings during the Short Inca Trail 1 Day Challenge. Please pay attention to where you leave your belongings and remember to take everything once you leave your bus, tents, and restaurants.
Here are some other options that will suit your needs
This was my first time in Peru and I am so glad that Peru Trek supported me. Cecilio was great at communicating and answered all the questions we had before the trip and our guide Juan was, without a doubt, the best guide we could have ever had. We hiked the Inca Trail with him and he was so helpful every step of the way. His knowledge and pride in the Inca culture came through in our conversations. I highly recommend Peru Trek to anyone visiting Peru. They offer so many unique services.
Peru Trek is the perfect group to book tours in Peru with. Cecilio’s planning and coordination was fantastic and during the day of the hike, our guide, Frank, was very helpful, patient and easy to deal with. The hike can be brutal for some people, but Frank did a great job of providing support and planning for us. I highly recommend Peru Trek, especially for first timers. They are fantastic for groups of all sizes.
We had a great time doing the short 1-day Inca Trail tour of Machu Picchu. Our tour guide Marlon was very informative, took care of all our needs and was a great guy. The meals included were great and good value for money.
We look forward to doing the longer tour with Peru Trek in the future!
We had a great time on our 1 day Inca trek; we thoroughly enjoyed the hike, seeing Inca ruins, walking the Inca steps, learning about the history of the Incas, Cusco and Peru, and of course the amazing views of Machu Pichu. Doing all of this with Peru Trek meant that we didn’t have to think or stress about all the logistics and entrance fees. I really appreciated that my dietary (vegetarian) request was catered for at all meals. Roxner was very clear with information beforehand and responded quickly to queries. Thank you Peru Trek! We had an unforgettable experience and I can’t think of any aspect that we would want to change.
Peru Trek was fantastic! We arranged a private tour for our group of 5. From the moment we were picked up at the Cusco airport to being dropped off 6 days later, we had exceptional service. Our guide, Mario, was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Our trip included a tour of Cusco, the extended Sacred Valley, the short Inca Trail, and two days at Machu Picchu including Huanya Picchu. Throughout the trip, he always made sure we knew what the plan was for the day and really looked after everyone to make sure we were all doing well and at a pace that worked for everyone. A great bucket list trip! I highly recommend Peru Trek!
