Tambopata Natural Reserved Area is one of the very few areas that contains lowland and foothill rainforests but also connects to cloud forests at higher elevations.
Few people were living in Tambopata’s most remote areas. Conservationists realized that the region could act as a major corridor between Manu National Park and Bolivia’s jungles. The area also harbored healthy populations of Tapirs, Jaguars and other felines, Giant Otters, Harpy Eagles, many types of Macaws, and other animals that had disappeared from other parts of Amazonia.
Upon arrival of your flight to Puerto Maldonado, our guide/staff will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the city center where you can visit the exotic local market. Depending on the arrival time of the flights, we can have the first lunch here or during the trip or at the lodge. We will continue to the port. We will take our private boat along the Madre de Dios River for about 1 hour to Paradise Amazon Lodge.
A cool welcome drink awaits you and then you will be taken to your bungalows to settle in.
In the afternoon, we will take a 30-minute boat ride to Monkey Island where you will be able to appreciate a great diversity of monkeys such as the “Maquisapa”, “Martin”, “Little Lions”, “Frailes”, “Achuñis”, Ronsocos”, etc., as well as a rich variety of birds.
Return to Paradise Amazon Lodge for a delicious traditional dinner. Evening activities are available every night. These range from night walks, talks on different topics and alligator sightings when conditions are optimal.
After a nutritious breakfast, we will walk a few minutes until we reach the checkpoint of Sandoval Lake, where you will register and present your entrance tickets. This lake is located in the Tambopata National Reserve.
Then we will continue our tour, walking 3 kilometers for an estimated time of 45 minutes. During this tour, you will have the opportunity to observe a great variety of flora and with luck a great variety of fauna such as birds, monkeys, rodents, arachnids, insects, reptiles and amphibians. Upon reaching the shores of the lake, you will enjoy a refreshing and relaxing swim in the waters of this majestic lake, which we will leave to your decision.
Enjoy a delicious and typical jungle lunch and then take a rowboat and take a ride around the lake. This time we will look for birds such as hoatzins, cormorants, anhingas, and with luck, the best attraction of Sandoval Lake, the playful lakes of the river.
In the afternoon, return to the Lodge. Dinner. Evening activities (optional).
Today we will travel very early for 1.5 hours to a clay wall where hundreds of green parrots congregate at dawn. We will usually be able to spend around an hour here before boarding the boat back to the lodge to enjoy breakfast.
Around 08:00 in the morning, we will walk to a native community to learn first-hand about their way of life. We will visit an indigenous family of former warriors and hunters. You will witness their ancestral traditions and customs.
After visiting the native family, we will embark on a boat ride to a stream where we will do some fishing inside the lake. The lake is home to different types of fish such as catfish, damselfish, sardines or piranhas.
We will bring the fish back to the lodge and our chef will cook them with traditional spices for lunch.
After lunch, we will transfer you back to Tambopata for your return flight or bus. If you have an early flight scheduled, please note that some activities will not take place.
If you have an afternoon bus or flight, you will do all the scheduled activities.
