Shortest Hike To Machu Picchu 2 Days

Shortest Hike To Machu Picchu 2 Days

Epic hike, Inca trail to Machu Picchu in just 2 days

What is the shortest hike to Machu Picchu?

On the Short Inca Trail, 1 day is dedicated to walking and the second day to visit the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu, a full day dedicated to exploring this fascinating site.

But first: We explored the original Inca Trail. After traveling from Cusco to Ollantaytambo by car and then from there to KM104 by train, the two-day Inca Trail begins with a 6- to 8-hour hike to the Inca site of Wiñay Wayna. After visiting this archaeological complex a little and taking a short tour of the site, you end your tour walking through the Puerta del Sol (also known as Inti Punku), the entrance gate to Machu Picchu. Here you will witness the first views of Machu Picchu.

Then, you walk along a side path, bordering the ruins, to take a bus to Aguas Calientes. Relax in the late afternoon in Aguas Calientes, explore a local restaurant, and enjoy the night in a hotel. On day two of your Short Inca Trail tour, get ready to explore the fascinating world wonder of Machu Picchu!

What is the difference between the Classic Inca Trail and the Short Inca Trail?

The main difference between the 2-day Inca Trail and the Classic Inca Trail lies in the duration and distance of the hike. The Short Inca Trail is a shorter version, usually completed in two days, where you can explore the best parts of the Inca Trail in less time, while the Classic Inca Trail lasts four days.
The Short Inca Trail covers a distance of approximately 10 kilometers from the road, while the Classic Inca Trail extends for about 42 kilometers.

Additionally, the 2-day Short Inca Trail is less physically demanding, making it a popular option for those short on time or those looking for a less strenuous hiking experience. With fewer tourists compared to the Classic Trail, you’ll also have a more intimate experience. Plus, you don’t need to worry about camping, personal porters, or a sleeping bag for the 2-day Inca Trail.

You’ll stay in a hotel along the way, making the hike comfortable and hassle-free. This shorter hike to Machu Picchu is for you!

What do you eat on the shortest hike to Machu Picchu?

On this shorter hike to Machu Picchu for 2 days, you usually take boxed lunches: this lunch includes quinoa, chicken, some fruits, juices, and water, which is the most important thing on this trek.

Can I add Huayna Picchu?

The hike to Huayna Picchu is the most popular of the hikes in the citadel of Machu Picchu. Huayna Picchu Mountain is the iconic, sharp peak that rises above Machu Picchu and is seen in many of those classic photos. From there, hikers can obtain an extraordinary view of Machu Picchu.

If you would like to climb this majestic mountain or any of the other alternative routes, please contact our diligent staff to add it to your 2-day Inca Trail hike. Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain require special permits that may sell out, so it’s best to book them in advance.
