Our Horsemen & Horses

Peru Trek

Our Horsemen on the Hike

Our muleteers represent local communities such as Ausangate, Choquequirao, Mollepata and others. We make sure to employ people who are responsible and dedicated to their work. They do an excellent job transporting your items on mules or horses along the way. In addition, they take care of the luggage safely to each campsite. Without them, we would not be able to provide you with one of the most amazing travel experiences and unforgettable memories.

We are truly grateful for their hard work and congratulate them from the bottom of our hearts because, with their great help, Peru Trek is getting better day by day.

1Where are our horsemen from?

Our muleteers are from the Andean communities, we work with them depending on the place we are going to visit.

2How many kilos do they carry?

Each mule carries 40 kg of trekking equipment. For trekking equipment, 7 kg (including sleeping bag) will be needed on the Salkantay route.

And on the other alternative routes, each person can carry 7 to 8 kilos, excluding the sleeping bag. Keep these figures in mind so that the mules receive the appropriate weight during the route.

3Can I rent an extra horse?

Of course, it is possible. Some people rent a horse to make their hike easier in difficult parts or to bring something extra. This is requested before starting the hike to coordinate with our horsemen.

4Is it safe to ride a horse?

Of course, our riders have horses especially for our clients to ride. It is advisable not to ride the horse in very steep or narrow areas.

What makes these trips different?

At Peru Trek we believe that a vacation should be more than a hotel room, a flight and a rental car. It should be more than the sum of its parts. We also believe that a challenge can help you grow and that a journey can move the soul. We create trips that are worthwhile – for the traveler, for the host and for the world.
